"The 2024 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a powerful, deep wine. Muscular contours and dark, enveloping fruit shape this virile, almost somber Zinfandel-based field blend. The 2024 needs time to soften, but it is also not quite as massive as some previous vintages, which is a positive. The overall direction at the Bedrock estate vineyard has been impressive of late. For years, I have asked myself if this site has the potential to make wines of the same level as some of the neighboring properties."

"Potent in structure and brooding at the core but plump with personality, offering blackberry and currant flavors accented by bitter chocolate, dark Asian spice and licorice tones as this builds tension and tannins on the finish. Hands off for now. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Best from 2027 through 2037. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.-T.F."

"This impeccably structured red is infused with personality and polish, unfolding with black cherry and raspberry flavors framed by orange peel, garrigue, brown baking spices and clove while building richness and tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Drink now through 2035. 1,200 cases made."T.F."

"#31 Top Wines of the USA 2025: A big, broad and balanced wine with so much dark fruit, wild herbs and black pepper to savor. It is full-bodied, medium to full in tannins, and complex. This melting-pot wine is made from old vines on the Bedrock home property that range from zinfandel to carignane, mourvedre and alicante bouschet. Drink now or hold."

"The 2023 Bedrock Heritage Wine is one of the best recent vintages of this wine I have tasted. Dark-toned fruit, lavender, chocolate, leather, cedar, menthol, licorice and pine infuse the palate with tremendous depth. This warm site clearly benefited from the colder growing season."

"The 2022 Bedrock Vineyard Heritage comes from a vineyard planted in 1888 to 29 different grape varieties. It has slowly unfurling scents of blueberry, red cherry and apricot with nuances of pepper, earth and floral potpourri. The full-bodied palate offers generous, nuanced flavors structured by youthfully chalky tannins and bursts of lip-smacking acidity, and it has a long, spicy finish."

"Brooding and deeply structured, this retains a sense of focus and vibrancy, with flavors of wild berries, clove, savory anise and green peppercorn that build tension and zestiness toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Best from 2025 through 2034. "T.F."

"This is a field blend of over 20 different varieties. Blended together, you get sweet red and black fruits emanating from the glass with a deep, dark, almost-luminescent hue. A slightly grippy finish allows the scant menthol character to come through."

"The 2022 Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine is a super-attractive wine from this site. Fresh and vibrant, the 2022 shows more energy than in most years. A change in farming, especially with regards to deleafing, yielded a wine with less heft than in the past. There's good energy, even if the wine feels a little light. In most vintages, the Bedrock is a potent, big wine. In 2022, the pendulum has swung back, but perhaps too far. This fruit was picked between August 31 and September 12."

"The 2023 Bedrock Vineyard Heritage comes from organically farmed vines planted in 1888. It™s composed mainly of Zinfandel, plus 26 other varieties including Zinfandel, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah and even Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose offers gobs of blackberry, black cherry and blueberry plus nuances of aniseed, tobacco and forest floor. The full-bodied palate features concentrated, spicy flavors. It™s structured by abundant, grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, spicy finish. It will benefit from several years in the cellar."

"Medium verging on deep purple in colour. Intensely brambly with dried earth, chilli spice and ripe black fruit. Full and weighty palate with fresh acid and grippy tannin. Finishes with sweet violet florals. Accessible now but could use some time to show its best. (SCJ)"
