Lieserer Niederberg Helden:
Created by merging the previously separate Niederberg and Helden vineyards, this Grosse Lage vineyard is just east of the village of Lieser. With a steep slope and the typical soil type for this part of the Mosel, blue Devonian slate, Niederberg Helden is known as one of the top vineyards for producing both dry and noble sweet wines. A unique microclimate is formed here by the south facing slopes curving inward which helps to capture warmth.

"This is very focused on the concentrated, medium-bodied palate, with Amalfi lemon and wet stone flavors. This dry Mosel beauty really needs some time to open up, but the classic elegance is already very impressive. Stunning mineral intensity and tingling freshness in the long finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drinkable now, but better from 2027."

"The 2024 Riesling Lieserer Niederberg Helden Grosses Gewächs is still shy on the nose. Only the tender savor of slate appears. The palate flows, gushes almost, with its lemony, slaty juiciness. All is framed with fruit that evokes sweeter citrus like tangerine and makes the mouth tingle. The beautifully zesty finish shows what is yet to come. Dry"

"The 2024 Niederberg Helden GG Lieser Riesling is coolish and smoky, elegant and surprisingly light but not green. Juicy, quite sweet but delicate, spicy and persistently salty, this already-attractive Riesling is less reductive than in the past at this early stage. It's a classic, cool and fine Mosel Riesling from a warm location, and it's developing a long finish. Tasted as a sample during the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in Wiesbaden, August 2025."

"Stacks of lemon blossom and white currant character make this classically sleek and elegant dry Mosel riesling attractive and exciting. The yellow grapefruit freshness on the sleek, compact, medium-bodied palate adds to the excitement. So much brilliance in the long, zesty finish. Drink or hold."

"The 2023 Riesling Lieserer Niederberg Helden Grosses Gewächs is exquisitely subtle on the nose, with a slightly smoky evocation of wet slate. The smooth palate is wonderfully stony, putting its slatiness deliciously ahead of fruit and is beautifully linear with ripe, straight-laced acidity. This totally clean-cut wine rings long with its slate savor."

"Supple for a Mosel Riesling yet still balanced and vibrant. Bitter lemon peel and sunny chamomile notes are woven with almond and firming white tea tannins. Zesty and bright, with peach skin bitterness on the long, satisfying finish. Drink now through 2035. 25 cases imported."

"This smells a little riper-fruited than the Goldtröpchen. Citrus and apricot. Deliciously scented and vibrant. Creamy texture balances all that primary, crisp fruit. (JH)"

"Niederberg Helden with its blue Devonian slate is Thomas Haag's top vineyard. He made it famous, for which it thanks him every year with great and complex wine personalities. Spontaneous fermentation in the old vaulted cellar has enabled Haag to once again use this classically typical Riesling vintage to let the variety express its origin with finesse, boasting slightly smoky notes, a trace of salt and notes of herbal tea and citrus fruit. One senses the harmony of Riesling, site and winemaker."
