Dorsheimer Goldloch:
With nearly ten acres (4 ha) Schlossgut Diel is by far the largest owner of this legendary steep site. One explanation of the name is that miners searched for gold here in the 17th century. Another is that the wines made from this site are worth their weight in gold. The key to success is in the soil. A thin layer of clay over bedrock provides power, elegance and depth to the wines.

"Super-crisp and bright, this has a dangerous freshness that drives it at a very brisk clip across the palate. It is citric and there are floral components in this picture, too, but none of that adequately describes the experience. On paper this has a significant natural grape sweetness, but in fact it tastes pretty dry, particularly in the lemon zest and mineral finish. Drink or hold."

"The 2023 Riesling Dorsheimer Goldloch Kabinett combines slight flintiness with a suspicion of passion fruit, a note of fragrant fern and some cumin. The palate is wonderfully citric, homing in on Amalfi lemon freshness amidst its vivid, bold juiciness that just drips with ripe yellow peach. It™s beautifully light, far too easy to drink and very animating with its zesty finish. Sweet"

"The 2023 Riesling Goldloch Kabinett is deep and generous on the earthy and slightly flinty nose. Round, fresh, filigreed and frisky on the savory and saline palate, this is a light, crystalline Kabinett, as if it were from the Mosel. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025."

"What a great riesling Kabinett, with such fabulous tension between wet-stone acidity and white-peach and Amalfi-lemon character. This is so racy and pure on the light-bodied palate but also shows fantastic finesse in the spot-on, balanced finish. Drink or hold."

"The 2024 Riesling Dorsheimer Goldloch Kabinett is still reductive with flint but this already brings enticing glimpses of lime-edged nectarine and passion fruit. The palate takes it to a beautiful limit, a teetering high-wire act between tropicality and superbly tart freshness. If you love thrill, this is your Kabinett. The 2024 is dangerously delicious. Off-dry"

"What a beautiful riesling Kabinett this is. Who could resist this peach attack? Enormous freshness and wonderful harmony, thanks to the concentrated and delicate, peachy fruit. So much wet-stone minerality at the finish. Drink or hold."

"Explosive and fascinating nose of persimmon, honeysuckle and wild herbs! As succulent as it is vibrant, this remarkable riesling Kabinett has a stunning balance of generous fruit and minerality on the concentrated yet light-bodied palate. Very zesty"

"The 2022 Riesling Dorsheimer Goldloch Kabinett has a touch of stone fruit on the nose. The palate turns this into a juicy yellow peach, tempered by russet pear peel and followed by a grapefruit freshness. There's a spicier edge, and a peppery verve appears later. Mouthwatering and bold with real drive and energy, the 2022 shows around 45 g/l of residual sweetness (Sweet)"
