"The 2023 Chardonnay Bönnigheim Sonnenberg VDP.Erste Lage is intense yet most of all pure and precise on the nose that is reminiscent of crushed stones and salt and bears a ripe fruit core with refreshing lemon notes. Full-bodied, fresh and vital on the palate, this is a savory, vibrant, persistently structured and mouthwatering Chardonnay with fine tannins and thrilling mineral grip on the finish. This Chardonnay is very well balanced and more playful than powerful compared to the Niedernberg. Like the latter, the former was aged on the lees for 12 months in used 300-liter tonneaux plus another six months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks. The wine was bottled unfiltered in April 2025 with 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2025."

"This vibrantly youthful German chardonnay has a bright lemon and lime zest character plus plenty of chalky minerality on the medium-bodied palate. Still quite tightly wound, particularly in the cool and quite crisp finish, but a bit more time in the bottle should help a lot. Drinkable now, but best from 2026."

"From gypsum Keuper marls, the 2021 Chardonnay Bönnigheim Sonnenberg is clear, intense and complex on the naturally reductive and iodine-inflected nose that indicates perfectly ripe and elegant fruit intermingled with lovely sur lie but also deep terroir notes. Vinified in 300-liter barrels for a year and for another half a year on the fine lees in stainless steel, this is a generous, dense and vital, very elegant and stimulating saline vin de terroir that reveals a substantial structure and a long, intense and still elegant finish that reveals very fine tannins and great aging potential. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in March 2024."
