"The 2022 Carignane (Contra Costa County) is a total knockout. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice, spice and espresso rush from the glass. Yields were about one-third of normal. The 2022 exudes richness, a sort of unnatural richness, that some readers might find extreme, but all the elements are so well balanced. Give the potent tannins a year or two to soften. There's real substance here. What a wine!"
