Absinthe 'Verte Suisse'

Absinthe Verte Suisse Kubler
  • Verte (green) absinthe distilled by 4th generation Master Distiller Yves Kübler at Blackmint SA Distillery in Môtiers, Val-de-Travers, Switzerland
  • The “holy trinity” of absinthe botanicals—Grand wormwood (A. absinthium) grown in the Vals-de-Travers, sweet fennel, and green anise—are macerated in neutral wheat spirit then distilled in a Holstein copper pot still
  • After distillation the spirit undergoes a secondary, 16-hour maceration of hyssop, lemon balm, peppermint, and petite wormwood (Artemisia pontica)
  • After resting for 2–3 weeks, the spirit is filtered and proofed with alpine spring water. It’s then allowed to rest in stainless steel in a dark, climate-controlled environment for 2–3 months before bottling
  • Each bottle is vintage dated to highlight the unique character of any given year’s wormwood harvest
  • A bold nose of bright mint, sweet fennel, and chamomile tea precedes a multi-dimensional palate of notes both sweet and savory. Baking spice, peppermint, and anise ranging in character from fresh and citrusy to toasted and warming last long into the finish.
  • 72% ABV

In 1875, Jacob Frédéric Kübler fine-tuned his recipe to maintain the verdant green color indicative of a well-made Verte absinthe. The spirit went on to win a gold medal at the Swiss National Exhibition in Zurich in 1883. Kübler’s Verte Suisse is still made with this recipe, resulting in an iconic la fée verte or “green fairy.” Enjoy this absinthe diluted with ice-cold water as an apéritif, or in any classic cocktail that calls for a touch of absinthe.
