Sacy Soeur et Frere
HISTORY
- The Sacy family has owned vines in Champagne since 1633
- The siblings Yaël and Jonathan Sacy are the 13th generation of the Sacy family, joining the domaine in 2013
- In 2024, they launched Sacy Soeur & Frère from 2 hectares of vines from the family’s property focusing on micro cuvees from their top sites across Verzy and Cernay-lès-Reims
- Farming is a key to their philosophy, with organic certification achieved in 2023
FARMING PRACTICES
- Certified organic
- Low till farming
- Use of cover crop to reduce soil erosion and promote healthy microbiome
- Trees planted in vineyards to promote biodiversity and reduce yields
- Sheep used for weed and pest control
- Very low yields
KEY VINEYARD POINTS
- Vines primarily in the Grand Cru of Verzy, with some small plots in Cernay-lès-Reims
- Verzy Grand Cru has various expositions, but north is the most prominent
- It is sandwiched between Verzenay Grand Cru to the west and Villers-Marmery 1er Cru to the east
- On the Villers-Marmery side, the chalk is finer, with only 50-70cm of topsoil, so that is where most of the Chardonnay is planted
- On the Verzenay side, the soil is harder with 1-2 meters of black clay
WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY
- A vinous approach to the wines
- Vinification is done primarily in barrels
- All the wines are allowed to go through malo
- Only ambient yeast fermentation
- Very low to zero additions of SO2
- Minimal dosage across the lineup
- Yaël and Jonathan Sacy are two of the most exciting figures in Champagne today. Their organically farmed sites from a collection of the greatest terroirs of the Montagne allow them to make beautifully vinous, intensely complex, and mineral wines that are some of the finest and most sought-after Champagnes being made
