Jackass Vineyard was planted in the late 1800’s in the splendid Russian River Valley. This eight acre vineyard thrives on a steep rolling hillside which surrounds the west side of the Jackass Hill Vineyard. The old head pruned vines are farmed much the same way as they were a century ago; without the use of trellising, irrigation, or pesticides. The vines produce a large crop load for being 100 years old, about three tons per acre, and the fruit is thinned to insure more concentrated flavor in the berries.

"The 2024 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard shows great restraint for such a potent, virile wine. Crushed rocks, leather and white smoke add complexity to a core of salty, brambly, wild blackberry and blueberry fruit. A real kick of chewy structure resonates with overtones of cocoa powder and white pepper. This is a sumptuous, heady Zinfandel, but the balance is beyond reproach."

"A transparent deep ruby red color, the 2022 Zinfandel Jackass Hill is a refined wine, with serious aromas that continuously evolve in the glass, layered with elegant notes of sandalwood, menthol, red-berried liqueur, cherries, dried apricot, polished leather, and forest floor. Medium-bodied, it brings tremendous purity and concentration, with ripe tannins, mouthwatering freshness, and an incredibly long palate. It™s got real underlying structure that lasts for ages on the palate, with notes of wet stone and rich mineral persistence. It™s not a joyful wine, but it™s only going to improve if given a chance in the cellar. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. This is built for the long haul."
