Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett

Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett

Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett

Variety: Riesling • Region: Mosel • Vineyard: Zeltinger Schlossberg • Soil Type: Blue Devonian slate • Fermentation & Élevage: Natural fermentation in old Mosel Fuder

Zeltinger Schlossberg:
A Grand Cru site, steeper overall than Himmelrich, but in comparison to Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Schlossberg has deeper subsoil of crumbly, broken slate, mixed with organic matter and loam. The vineyard is also more further from the Mosel river and gets less of the effect from the wide water surface. The lower sections of Schlossberg (Bömer and Schmitt) are close to the mainly stone houses in the village, which radiate warmth back into the vineyard (a privileged situation akin to that of the Bernkasteler Doctor). The Kabinett produced from this site comes from the higher, cooler parcels closer to the forest which maintain excellent acidity and full aromatic ripeness without too much sugar. This is a Kabinett exactly in the style that Johannes Selbach likes to make – firm, crunchy, mineral without an excess of sugar.

"Selbach's 2022 Zeltinger Schlossberg Kabinett offers a pure and finely flinty nose of ripe and lush fruit aromas intertwined with delicate notes of soft, crushed slate. Mouth-filling, round, lush and filigreed on the palate, this is a seductive, saline and balanced Kabinett with a highly stimulating finish and the lightness of a true Kabinett. 8.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap closure. Tasted at the domaine in November 2023."

"The 2024 Riesling Zeltinger Schlossberg Kabinett was harvested at the top of the site from the Bleckes parcel. Only sporadic flickers of passion fruit appear amidst the stone. The palate flows with the gentlest juiciness of apple and yellow plum that is more stony than sweet. All about it is tender, charming, supple and so understated yet very long. Off-dry"

"The lively interplay of restrained juiciness and bright apple acidity gives this crisp and light-bodied Mosel Kabinett plenty of appeal. Long, slatey finish with good energy and a well-integrated touch of natural grape sweetness. Drink or hold."

"The 2023 Riesling Zeltinger Schlossberg Kabinett comes from the uppermost reaches of the site. The shy nose doesn't reveal much, but the palate offers stone, slate and zest with a zesty lemon brightness cut by fruit. Beautiful zestiness frames the slate and shines with brightness. Gorgeously light and far from obviously sweet."

"The 2023 Zeltinger Schlossberg Kabinett is clear and refined on the nose, which is elegant and flinty, very well balanced and clear in its articulation. Astringent due to the sulfur dose, this is quite a sweet yet also savory and crystalline Riesling with stimulating salinity on the finish. 9% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026."

"Expressive and charming in profile, this offers mellow grapefruit, sweet apple, quinine and mineral flavors. This is balanced by lively acidity, turning tangy on the savory finish. Skurnik Wines, Inc. "A.Z."
