- 100% Syrah
- Sourced from Jakkalsfontein, a single vineyard planted in the decomposed Granitic soils of the Paardeberg
- Hand harvested on a cool early morning picking and transferred into 500L French oak open-top fermenters, whole-bunched
- Once crushed by foot, the indigenous fermentation process started and very gentle extraction was achieved by doing punch-downs by hand
- 3 week skin contact before being gravitationally drained and then pressed back into the same vessels for malolactic fermentation and further maturation
- Aged for 12 months in French oak 500L barrels of which 50% was new, followed by 10 months in 2000L Foudre
- Once bottled, the wine was aged for another 8 months before release

"The Mullineux 2023 Swartland Granite Syrah is perfumed and open, offering redcurrant, blackberry and lifted floral spice over a soft but broad tannin frame. Despite a rainy growing season, this Syrah leans toward a riper, more approachable expression while retaining aromatic purity. Planted in the late 1990s on granite and fermented with 100% whole-cluster fruit, the site™s deep soils and moderated canopy growth support both ripeness and freshness."

"Rose hips, wild raspberries, rocks and pink peppercorns on the nose with some cardamom and licorice. Medium-bodied, this has stacks of very fine, powdery tannins and vibrant acidity. Structured, mineral and very fresh. From a vineyard planted in 1988. 100% crushed whole-cluster fermentation. Try after 2025."

"The most elegant of the Mullineux soil trio, the Granite vines always produce the grapes with the biggest berries and highest acidity, according to owner and winemaker Andrea Mullineux. This translates into a very serious but subtle wine, with layers of red fruit, dried flowers, crushed pink peppercorn and exotic spices. A bloody, sanguine edge underpins the long, fine finish."
