Vines planted in 1956 in clay-limestone soil with a clay-sand texture. Deep. This poor soil is made up of a superposition of strata formed in the Quaternary era composed of fine sands over a limestone soil dating back to the Tertiary era. We thus have the benefit of a very well-oxygenated terrain with great biological diversity and excellent potential for vine-growing. Its location, sheltered from the south-east winds, provides this plot with natural protection that in turn creates a unique micro-climate. Expressive aromatics, fresh and very clean. Slender with verticality on the palate, giving the wine its finesse and style. Powerful, polished, well-integrated tannins.

"Violets, minerals and blueberries on the nose, with an abundance of chalky tannins that are reactive and cohesive. This is really vibrant and bright, showing precision, length, striking balance and effortless concentration. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"Carlos L¢pez de Lacalle has brought a new elegance to the Artadi reds, confirming his status as one of the best young winemakers in Spain. Elegant, ethereal and nicely understated, it's an acid-driven Tempranillo from a 1.62-hectare parcel in Laguardia, with finesse and energy, pomegranate, grapefruit and tangerine fruit and sculpted tannins. 2023-2038"

"The bottled 2022 San L zaro delivers all that the unbottled sample last year promised (and more!). There's always an ethereal character here, an elegance and stony, chalky minerality that I like very much. It's not a shy wine at 14.6% alcohol, with a pH of 3.59 and 4.89 grams of acidity, and it's medium-bodied and elegant, with lots of finesse and very chalky and fine tannins. This vineyard has shallow soils, similar to El Pis¢n but with more sand. It's a strong contender for best wine after El Pis¢n. They filled 4,000 bottles in June 2024."

"The 2022 San Lázaro was sourced from a sandy amphitheater. Purple in hue, it opens with expressive notes of plum and cherry—both fresh and ripe—alongside hints of lavender and orange peel. On the palate, it's leaner than other bottlings, but offers flavor, texture and gentle grip. This is a more front-loaded expression than other years, with fine tannins and a clean, well-defined profile."
