Leopold Bros’ Three Chamber Rye releases are a faithful re-engineering of the “golden age” of rye whiskey distillation, achieved by using the distillery’s famous three-chamber still. While there are only four active three-chamber stills in the world today, they were once commonly used by American whiskey makers, from Jack Daniels to Stitzel-Weller, until they fell out of favor shortly after Prohibition due to their lack of efficiency. Leopold Bros commissioned Vendome Copper and Brass Works to painstakingly recreate a three chamber still using old manuscripts and, in 2016, distilled the first whiskey in a three-chamber still in over fifty years. Produced using Abruzzi rye—a low-starch Italian rye favored by pre-Prohibition distillers—and vatted in small batches of casks between 52% and 59% ABV, this is both the oldest and highest-proof Leopold Bros Three Chamber Rye to date!
