Ried Heiligenstein:
The terraced south and southwest facing slope has a unique geological history that has been preserved in this particular area. The outcropping bedrock consists of a reddish-brown sandstone with a high feldspar content, coarse conglomerates, and minor siltstone. These sediments formed approximately 250–280 million years ago under arid conditions, in lakes, ponds, and ephemeral rivers. The rocks contain fossilized plants and gravels with clasts of volcanic rhyolites. Loess is only preserved in a few locations, within shallow depressions.

"Just let this giant wave of crystalline minerality roll over you and carry you away. It™s only medium-bodied, but the combination of silkiness and stoniness is off the charts. The incredibly long, precise finish pulls you inexorably back for more. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

"The 2024 Riesling Heiligenstein comes from a tiny amount of grapes following spring frosts, picked in excellent health. The nose is tender, enticing and even haunting, with scents of green Seville orange. The palate is concentrated and serene, offering citrus pith, juice and peel, with an emphasis right now on textural pithiness and aromatic top notes. This wine strikes an effortless balance and shows ripeness, concentration and serenity. All the elements are here, presenting beautiful harmony."

"What a stunningly concentrated, stone-fruit beauty this is. The vitality and intensity of the wet-stone character on the medium body of this great Heiligenstein dry riesling is extraordinary. Breathtaking finesse in the superlong and focused finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification."

"This full, broad, expansive version hums with energy that unfurls with time in glass. Cool stone minerality offsets the richness, bringing focus to the core of ripe orchard fruit, coated in salt and herbs, while savory fennel and lanolin notes play out. Manages to finish with incredible complexity and refreshment. 50 cases imported. - KB"

"Ripe citrus and a light woody/cedary note (not oak). Creamy and gently spiced. There's power on the mid palate here yet nothing out of balance. Deep and long, the freshness is there but it's not the first thing you notice. (JH)"

"Wonderful nose of bergamot and Asian pear with a whiff of mint. Super-silky and super-fine on the medium-bodied palate, this is a masterpiece of restrained ripeness. Then comes the incredible wet stone minerality at the extremely long, refined finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. Screw cap."

"The 2022 Riesling Heiligenstein was harvested on the four lower terraces of the slope, whole-bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel only. This rises from the glass with immense purity and perfume of cypress and bergamot peel. The palate continues in this scented fashion but adds fluidity and rounded, peachy fruit to the mid-palate. It is on the finish that zestiness appears, making this so serene, tangy and absolutely taut on the finish. (Bone-dry)"

"Hirsch's 2022 Riesling Ried Heiligenstein 1–TW opens with a very clear, deep and elegant nose and brilliant fruit elegance and fine apricot notes. It is fine on the palate, still quite yeasty and, therefore, perhaps less clear and stimulating than on the nose. However, the wine shows a dense, complex texture and a savory finish. Give it time! 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap."

"Shows a lot of stuffing. Lychee, spicy ginger and Asian pear notes are creamy and rich, run through by a juicy acid jolt and flinty, smoky highlights on a full-bodied frame. Beautifully enticing. - KB"
