"The 2020 Sant Laurent Ried Holzspur was harvested from vines planted in 1956 and 1958. It was fermented with a third of whole bunches and aged for 14 months in a mix of first- and third-fill barriques. The nose is still defined by earthy reduction. The palate is dense and swishes in with a tight, silky weave of tannin. This is a mouthful of wine, dense, bold, yet elegant. The 2020 has much power with freshness and a lasting finish. It's quite a big Sankt Laurent that needs bottle age. (Bone-dry)"

"The 2020 Ried Holzspur St. Laurent is based on the fruit of the oldest (up to 65 years old) vines of the vineyard with its calcareous, warm and dry alluvial soil. Aged in barriques for 22 months and for another six months on the bottle, the still-to-be-released 2020 opens with a deep, pure, fresh and terroir-driven bouquet of ripe but fresh forest berries intermingled with distinctive mineral notes. Tight, pure and fresh on the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense and refreshingly tannic as well as vivacious St. Laurent with fine tannins intermingled with the saline acidity of this remarkably persistent red wine that already drinks with great pleasure but can also be aged for about two decades. A superb red wine from Tattendorf, Thermenregion. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023."

"From 62-year-old vines and aged in Austrian and French barriques for 16 months, the 2016 St Laurent Ried Holzspur is intensely fruity and concentrated yet pure and fine on the charming and generous nose that exhibits dark, ripe cherry and berry aromas with notes of melting milk chocolate. Smooth and round on the palate, this is a full-bodied and juicy wine with power, finesse and intense and persistent fruit and warmth. Quite powerful and rich but always refined and elegant, with ripe and fine tannins. More the old Reinisch style of the red septet I had during this tasting at home in March 2020. 13.5% alcohol. Give the wine (at least) 3-5 years."
