"The 2020 Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Maillerettes Extra Brut offers a deeper hue with a light pink tinge and reveals all the dark black fruit of cherries that Bouzy has to offer, along with the kirsch and violets. It leans toward full-bodied, but again, these wines are weightless, pure, and transparent, with a delicate but present mousse that flattens on the palate and a fantastic mineral texture that carries through the wine even in this fruity vintage. Like all the wines in this tasting, this was aged for 10 months in fût and spent 48 months in a cask, but the oak is beautifully integrated. The wine has a lot of energy and emotion, and the mousse is airy and pillowy, like a supporting cloud framing the wine. It has a more rounded, fruity texture, with fabulous length, and the savory notes of sanguine or subtle iodine and saline accent the finish, though the fruit never diminishes. Drink 2025-2050. 3 grams per liter dosage. Disgorged in December 2024."

"This dry, minerally and focused Champagne has aromas and flavors of red apples, chalk, raspberries and pie crust with a touch of manuka honey. It™s precise, tight knit and fresh on the palate. Chalky minerality. Very long, seamless finish. Pinot noir. Disgorged January 2025. 3 g/L dosage. Drink or hold."

"As it becomes increasingly challenging to produce vibrant wines from south-facing slopes in hot vintages"conditions Champagne is experiencing with greater frequency"the 2019 Blanc de Noirs Bouzy Grand Cru Les Maillerettes is an impressive achievement. Disgorged in December 2023 with a dosage of three grams per liter, it is sourced from mid-slope vines planted in 1970 on a south-facing site that serves as a nursery for the estate™s massal selections. If Verzenay is among the last places the Paillard brothers harvest, Les Maillerettes is one of the first, and it bursts from the glass with an expressive bouquet of dried apricot, orange zest, elderflower and pear. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with ripe yet vibrant acidity, concluding with a long, expansive finish. It promises a broad drinking window."
