Destilado de Agave, Zacatoro, 'Cesareo Garcia'

Destilado de Agave Zacatoro Cesareo Garcia
  • Destilado de agave produced in Tecoanapa, Guerrero
  • Maestro Mezcalero Cesareo García
  • Produced from 100% Zacatoro (Agave angustifolia)
  • Cooked in an earthen pit oven
  • Milled with a small mechanical shredder
  • Fermented in white pine (ayacahuite) tanks using spring water
  • Distilled twice using traditional copper pot stills
  • A faintly musty nose with notes of peanut skin, butterscotch, blueberry, and rubber transitions to a rich, oily palate of marshy, coastal sea grass, banana, powdered sugar, and peanut marzipan candy with an herbaceous bitterness and some barnyard funk on the finish
  • 49% ABV

From the prolific Cesareo García, father of Guadalupe Bastian, and one of the Sanzekan collective’s most recognized mezcaleros, comes this rare example of wild-harvested A. angustifolia. This agave is smaller and more fibrous than most Oaxacan examples—more similar to the Espadilla of Oaxaca’s northern regions than the Espadín of the Central Valles. This batch carries heavy esters which also lean into nostalgic aromas of banana, almond, blueberry jam, and oily peanut hulls.
