Chenin Blanc 'Skaliekop'

Chenin Blanc 'Skaliekop'

Chenin Blanc Skaliekop David Nadia Sadie
  • Chenin Blanc
  • Very shallow shale soils in the Paardeberg, being an anomaly as the mountain is granite driven
  • Planted on the Paardebosch farm and being very much exposed to the sun, nature and its elements as its planted on a “kop”. Hill of shale if the name is translated directly
  • David & Nadia have been farming this parcel since winter 2013 and this vineyard keeps on surprising them with its “lateral” tension, and broadness, a contrast to its neighboring vineyards planted in pure granite
  • Harvested towards the end of January, the Skaliekop proves to be one of the most challenging vineyards to ferment bone dry within its first two months in barrel
  • Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal and forms part of the Old Vine Project

"Intense, fresh and silky perfumed nose of grilled baby pineapple with vanilla salt, spices and wet stone. Lovely precision, clarity and intensity. This feels like a wine for the longer term."

"#1 Top 100 Wines of South Africa; Inviting aromas of white peaches, nougat and orange peel. Medium-bodied with silky texture. Bright and fresh on the palate with lovely white tea character. Bright acidity. Subtle concentration pushes the length. Seamless balance. Complex, nutty notes at the finish. Wonderful. From vines planted in 1985. Sustainable. Drink or hold."

"Brighter and more generous on the nose, the 2021 Skaliekop Chenin Blanc offers focused and expressive aromatic dusty citrus tones with firm florals. Medium to full-bodied, the wine unfolds on the palate to reveal its impressive weight and texture before offering up flavors of lemon pastry cream with hints of petrichor. The wine concludes with a long-lingering, balanced and expressive finish that brings me back for more."
