"The 2022 Chardonnay Reserve is grown in the Steinberg site, a cool plateau behind the Steinmassl site on paragneiss. It was fermented and aged in Burgundian oak, with about a third of new barrels. Oaky smoke, for now, defines the nose. The palate is beautifully stony, a riposte and counterpart to all the limestone-dominated Chardonnays in the world. It has stony stringency and noble austerity, tapering to a citric, stony finish. It is long and smoky. (Bone-dry)"

"Smoky, leesy and lemony, this is a very elegant cool-climate chardonnay. Sleek and cool on the medium-bodied palate with a long, quite stony finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"Attractively flinty with matchstick, lemon rind and peach pit aromas. Some salted butter, too. It™s medium- to full-bodied, concentrated and taut, with tension and brightness. Long finish, flinty and salty, in a sophisticated Burgundian style. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"The 2023 Chardonnay Ried Steinberg comes mostly from 30- to 40-year-old vines rooted in pure gneiss. It is slightly crushed, pressed slowly and fermented in barrel without sedimentation. Smokiness and blanched hazelnut appear on the nose, while fine white-fleshed stone fruit takes over on the palate with juicy generosity and a firm lemon frame of freshness. Slight heat emerges on the finish, reinforcing the sense of concentration and tautness."
