• White gold in the glass, this whisky opens with a whiff of peanut shell, freshly slivered almonds, and toasted walnuts before developing notes of cloves, ripe bananas, and vanilla ice cream, plus the expected campfire smoke. The palate offers white peach and star fruit—plus a generous note of salted caramel—followed by iodine and beach campfire. The finish is oily and long, offering sustained impressions of sea salt, cloves, iodine, and hearth.

Given that Bessie Williamson (1910–1982) helmed Laphroaig [lah•FROYG] for nearly 20 years (the first woman to have owned and run a Scottish distillery), Laphroaig is generally acknowledged to be the source of “Williamson” bottlings. That said, while this whisky is full of smoke and iodine—true to the character of the southern Islay distilleries—it also displays a distinctive fruitiness, making the expression unique.
