- Amaro produced by High Wire Distilling Co. in Charleston, South Carolina
- Incorporates over 8 botanicals, many of which are local and/or wild foraged
- Primarily bittered with gentian; other botanicals include local (when available) black tea (included as a nod to Charleston, home to one of the largest tea farms in America), fresh mint, Dancy tangerine peels, foraged Carolina bay leaf, green tea leaves, whole clove, and licorice root
- Botanicals are incorporated via a multi-stage maceration over 6–8 weeks (botanicals are removed at staggered intervals to control intensity, balance bitterness, and prevent over-extraction) in 120-proof neutral grain spirit distilled from corn
- Final blend is sweetened with cane sugar
- Finished spirit is rested prior to bottling
- An entrancing, traditional whiff of black licorice, clove, bay leaf, plus candied citrus leads to a rooty, mellow-sweet bitterness that’s equal parts gentian and tea leaves. Lingering bitterness and hard-spice seasoning invites another sip.
- No added color or glycerin
- Non-chill filtered; 30% ABV
Tailor-made for the sub-tropical climate and rich cuisine of Charleston, High Wire’s Southern amaro pairs light body with modest bitterness to yield an amaro that’s as friendly opening an early afternoon gathering on a seaside screened porch as closing a long night of delicious Low Country cuisine. A distinctly Southern interpretation of amaro—grounded in local ingredients and driven by restrained sweetness and bitterness, it’s a solid gateway amaro that figures promisingly as a potential cocktail ingredient.
