• Aromas of raspberries in syrup and newly cut hay evolve into bubble gum, fresh red apple, and a whiff of ginger, followed by roasted cashews and honey accented with cinnamon. On the palate the red fruit notes deepen into stewed strawberries and baked apple with a background of root vegetable and earth, pricked with peppery spice. Milk chocolate hovers over well-integrated proof on the finish.

Fans of Nc’nean’s early output—in which elegant, fruity distillate was coaxed to the fore by residence in shaved, toasted, and re-charred (STR) red wine casks—will be delighted by this limited, US-exclusive bottling in which the distilling team follows ex-bourbon maturation with a significant Amarone-cask finish. Necessity being transformed into the higher calling of invention, Amarone—the regal, long-aged red wine of the Veneto made only in exceptional years, in which the grapes are allowed to raisinate for months before being vinified—provides deeper, more complex red fruit notes, high-toned shades of cocoa, and a savory, secondary quality that runs from nuttiness to leather. The critics at Whisky Advocate took note, awarding this Aon expression a score of 92.
