Before relocating to Denver, the original Leopold Bros distillery was in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where sweet-tart Montmorency cherries are a regional staple used in pies, jams, preserves, sauces, and more. Leopold Bros has sourced their Montmorency cherries from the same farming co-op in Traverse City, Michigan, for over twenty years to create their Michigan Tart Cherry Liqueur. Crafted around a base of fresh-pressed juice to best capture the essence of the cherries (the pits are separated and distilled for the brand’s Maraschino Cherry Liqueur), this is a perfect addition to highballs, spritzes, and sours, and can be used to balance spirit-forward drinks with subtle acidity.
