Michigan Cherry Whiskey

Michigan Cherry Whiskey Leopold Bros
  • Cherry-flavored whiskey produced by Leopold Bros in Denver, Colorado
  • Made using Montmorency cherries grown by a co-op in Traverse City, Michigan
  • Cherries are milled and juiced, and the juice is blended with 4-year-old Leopold Bros whiskey
  • Whiskey distilled from a mash bill of 65% corn, 20% floor-malted barley, and 15% rye
  • The whiskey and cherry juice are blended and matured in ex–Leopold Bros bourbon barrels for 2 months
  • Non-chill filtered; 40% ABV

Before Prohibition, it wasn’t uncommon for distillers to barrel their whiskeys with small amounts of fruit juice. Leopold Bros maintains that tradition with this cherry-flavored whiskey by using the juice of a northern Michigan staple: Montmorency cherries—a sweet-tart cherry used for pies, jams, sauces, and more. After combining the fresh juice of these cherries with Leopold Bros whiskey, the blend is matured for two months in Leopold Bros’ bourbon casks where the flavors mingle and the juice oxidizes, providing notes of marzipan and vanilla.
