In 2015, Didier Belondrade, proprietor of Belondrade in Rueda and one of the most sought-after white winemakers in Spain, visited Priorat and was bowled over by a unique vineyard he found and later purchased: the Clos del Afaitador in the village of Solanes del Molar. This spectacular pine-sheltered north-facing amphiteater boasts an 80-meter elevation change from top to bottom (!), but had been abandoned after being planted in the early 1980s.

After acquiring the parcel the Belondrade family began experimenting with microvinifications, seeking the best expression of the parcel’s Carinyena and Garnacha planted in llicorella slate, clay, and limestone according to the elevation on the slope. The first domestic commercial release was in 2018, and now, with the 2019 vintage, we are thrilled to debut this amazingly poised expression of balanced Mediterranean power!!
