Welsh Single Malt Whisky [Gold Series] 'Peated', Penderyn Distillery

Penderyn Single Malt Whisky was launched on March 1, 2004—a date which signaled the return of whisky distillation to Wales after an absence of more than 100 years. The distillery was officially opened by HRH, Prince Charles, and championed by the late Dr. Jim Swan, a legendary force in the world of whisky and also Penderyn’s master blender. The whisky is distilled in a unique, specially-commissioned still that produces a flavorful spirit at 92% ABV which is then married with fresh spring water drawn from directly beneath the distillery at Brecon Beacons Park. An exciting project with the heart of Wales behind it!

Tasting Notes

This expression of Penderyn is finished in ex-Laphroaig Quarter Casks leading to a delicate layer of soft peat that adds an intriguing counterpoint to the rich, fruity character found in all Penderyn whiskies. The peat is soft enough for those looking to dabble in peated whiskies but enough to take those that love peat to their happy place. 46% ABV.
