Welsh Single Malt Whisky '13 Year Single Rich Oak Cask', Penderyn Distillery
Penderyn Single Malt Whisky was launched on March 1, 2004—a date which signaled the return of whisky distillation to Wales after an absence of more than 100 years. The distillery was officially opened by HRH, Prince Charles, and championed by the late Dr. Jim Swan, a legendary force in the world of whisky and Penderyn’s master blender. The whisky is distilled in a unique, specially commissioned still that produces a flavorful spirit at 92% ABV. Married with fresh spring water drawn from directly beneath the distillery at Brecon Beacons Park, Penderyn’s singular whiskies have the heart of Wales behind them!

The core range from Penderyn have garnered praise and distinction since the distillery first restoked the fires of Welsh whisky distillation in 2004. Gaining even further distinction, a single cask is occasionally selected from Penderyn’s warehouse for its stand-alone excellence.
This 13-year-old single malt was first matured in multiple ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks, then finished in a single ex-European STR cask (shaved, toasted, and re-charred ex-red wine) cask. Displaying a nose of dark chocolate and tropical fruit jam, the palate is rich and juicy with mango and papaya underlined with oak tannin. The finish transitions to dried prune and sultana with a lingering hint of the ripe flavors that came before. Bottled exclusively for the US market at 58.1% ABV.
