The cherry-red colored 2017 Jaspis Syrah is deep, pure, fresh and peppery on the dark, intense and complex yet refined and elegant nose with its smoky and concentrated yet precise and pure dark fruit, herbal and even lemony aromas. Lush and intense yet refined and fresh on the silky-textured palate, this is a tight yet elegant, tensioned, great Syrah from the Markgräflerland. It is vital, fresh, pure and nervous, with a long, finessed, elegant, highly stimulating and salty finish. Surely Ziereisen's finest Syrah to date. 13% alcohol. Tasted from lot L 28 19 in July 2020.
The 2016 Syrah Jaspis is intense, ripe and fresh on the nose, lovely aromatic and pure, with flinty, chalky and peppery notes. The palate is fleshy, intense and velvety textured, with fine tannins and good concentration, fruit and grip. Ripe and mealy tannins. A pure and fleshy character. Good length and ripe black fruit flavors. A bit too oxidative and less focused perhaps, at least for my personal tastes.
