Grapes for the 2015 Mullineux Granite Syrah were sourced from a single parcel of sustainably farmed 21-year-old dry-farmed, bush vines grown in the decomposed Granite of the Paardeberg. This is the parcel of Syrah that gives the best expression of this granite terroir – freshness and perfume. Whole bunches are put into open-top 500L French oak barrels and foot stomped to release some juice. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and left on the skins for four weeks, with pigeage once per day. The Syrah is aged twelve months in 500L French oak barrels, 25% new, and then an additional twelve months in 2nd fill foudre. 10 months of aging in bottle before release. ABV 14%, pH 3.69. 236 cases produced.

"The 2017 Granite Syrah needs a little encouragement from the glass to reveal scents of blackberry, raspberry coulis, fennel and gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins and a fine bead of acidity. There is a satisfying salinity throughout this Syrah, and a pleasing brightness on the finish. Excellent winemaking here, and I suspect this will age with style."
