Sauvignon Blanc, ‘Napa Valley’, Accendo
Although many Napa Valley vineyards have been converted to Cabernet Sauvignon over the last two decades, there are still sites where great Sauvignon Blanc is found.
Accendo Sauvignon Blanc is the product of discriminating fruit sourcing and conscientious, diligent farming. It is a powerful Sauvignon Blanc, yet with a delicacy and finesse that can only come with a winemaking philosophy that honors the fruit and the vineyard’s terroir. We give this wine extra time in barrel and bottle prior to release, resulting in an exquisitely balanced Sauvignon Blanc that is aromatically complex, concentrated in flavor and richly textured – a wine influenced by both a Graves from Bordeaux and a Sauvignon Blanc from the New World.
Whole cluster pressed
Fermented in stainless steel and new and once-used French oak barrels
Primarily native yeast
Aged sur lie for 7 months with weekly batonnage
Delicate aromas of citrus blossoms, guava and linden fill the nose, highlighted by notes of green almond and grapefruit rind. On the palate, the wine shows a firm vein of minerality that provides structure to the full, creamy mouthfeel, while on the finish, a lingering minerality completes the complex flavor experience. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Musque and Semillon, the wine is refreshing, expressive and sophisticated with a Graves-like, classic style. Notes winemaker Françoise Peschon: This wine exhibits a perfect ‘shape’, from the fresh attack, the full crescendo of bright flavor and creamy texture, and the beautiful decrescendo of the long, satisfying mineral finish. It is a beauty for sure.

The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc is rich, ample and expressive, with notable textural depth and resonance. Varietal Sauvignon Blanc aromatics meld into generous fruit in this creamy, pedigreed white from Bart and Daphne Araujo. I find the 2016 quite a bit more giving today than the 2015, which is the exact opposite of what I would have expected.
