Sauvignon Blanc 'Marlborough', Mahi

Sauvignon Blanc 'Marlborough', Mahi

The Mahi Sauvignon Blanc comes from seven different estate vineyards. The hand-picked fruit was whole-cluster pressed so that the time on skins was minimized. A portion of this juice, 7% this year, was barrel-fermented in older French oak to give greater weight, though ensuring that wood is not evident on the nose. The balance of the wine was fermented cool in stainless steel to retain the fruit characters from our vineyards. 22% of the cuvee was fermented with native yeast. Dry, 13% ABV. 8,000 cases produced.

Review:
This was released six months later than usual due to Covid-19. Sourced from a combination of six vineyards. Fermented 40% wild - an increase in this vintage - and 20% in barrel, with no press wine, so the pH stays low, followed by nine months on lees. Offering floral notes and citrus, this conveys a nice sense of tenderness and flesh yet also a lightness of touch. Feels very unworked and has a sense of purity.
