"Bernhard Ecker's top site for Roter Veltliner is the south-facing Steinberg. The honeysuckle-scented 2020 was a touch heavy and broad, and I prefer the 2021. The nose displays excellent fruit that's rich and spicy. It's ripe and concentrated on the palate, but also has verve and energy to counter the exoticism, and the long finish is shot through with fine acidity."
