Alzinger Ried Höhereck Smaragd Wachau Riesling
Grape variety: Riesling
Soil type: gneiss, mica schist, & loam
Wine-making: Spontaneously fermented in stainless steel. Elevage in steel with a small amount of neutral Austrian oak.
The vineyard is characterized by barren and stony ground, which hardly exists in many places and allows the gneiss to penetrate. The higher corner exposes itself directly to the south, but the solar radiation is cushioned by continuous winds from the northwest. Ideal terroir for Riesling, which is generally a bit creamier here than in the Steinertal valley, but similarly mineral.
