Riesling Feinherb ‘Von der Nahe’, Schlossgut Diel
An estate level Riesling—all of Diel’s vineyards are on steep, south-facing slopes with high proportions of slate. The wine is spontaneously fermented in traditional barrels with extended lees aging in stainless steel tank.
Perfect! Zingy, minerally, perfectly balanced, piquant and zippy, real Nahe, as balanced and spicy as the “MC” we get from Catoir but sleeker and “greener,” more stone and shade-herbs, less exotic and tropical. The entire Riesling genre soars on such wines! — Terry Theise
