Ribera del Duero, 'Malleolus de Sanchomartín', Bodegas Emilio Moro

The top of the Emilio Moro range, Malleolus de Sanchomartin is made exclusively with grapes from the Pago de Sanchomartin vineyard, which was planted in 1964 with cuttings from the Valderramiro vineyard. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is moved to new French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 22 months of aging. Only 3,000 bottles are produced per vintage.

Review:
Inky ruby. Hugely perfumed, mineral- and spice-tinged cherry, dark berry, vanilla and floral oil qualities on the finely detailed nose. Supple and deeply concentrated but animated as well, offering cherry liqueur, black raspberry, spicecake and candied violet flavors that pick up a smoky nuance with air. Finishes on an alluringly sweet note, with superb persistence and polished, steadily building tannins lend shape and solid grip.
