Red Wine ‘Palisades’, Joel Gott
This wine gets its name from the original high end grocer owned by the Gott family in 1993 in Calistoga in northern Napa Valley. Inside there was a small wine shop where Joel learned about the wine trade and customer trends. This experience was Joel’s impetus for creating wines of excellent value that are true to the varieties and terroirs of California, while maintaining a focus on quality vinification.
Palisades Red Blend is a classic Bordeaux-style wine, composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and filled out with Petite Sirah, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc to add complexity and layers to the wine. The fruit is sourced from high quality vineyard sites in Lake County, Lodi and Monterey. Lake County fruit provides supple tannins and structure to the wine while the sites in Lodi, with deeper soils, provide sweeter and more mature fruit flavors. Grapes from Monterey grow in a cooler climate with great marine influence, which gives the resulting wine an elegant mouthfeel.
2015 was an excellent growing year, with high temperatures (but not too high!) in late summer, giving way to perfect ripeness at the time of harvest. The wine spends is aged in 1-2 year old American Oak.
