Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling

Georg Breuer Rdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling

Schlossberg lies in the bend of the Rhine, the so-called “Binger Loch”, west of Rüdesheim and opposite Bingen and the Mäuseturm. Here, the Rhine changes direction and flows after its Rheingau East-West Intermezzo back to the north. Very steep, the rows of vines rise here with 65 percent inclination from 120 to 160 meters above sea level and are held by strong vineyard walls. The sun’s intensity in the south to southwest facing GL is high, the mountain arches towards the sun and the Rhine does as a mirror its remainder. The soils of the approximately 25 hectares of steep slope are made of Taunus quartzite and Phyllitschiefer and are quite permeable, but serve as an additional heat storage.

"Here you can really smell and taste that these were tiny berries that held very little juice and struggled to reach full ripeness, but the result is truly amazing. What an astonishing aroma spectrum this sleek and incredibly focused dry has: everything from wild herbs to jack fruit! Enormous concentration is packed into a very sleek frame (11.5% alcohol), the wine at once imposing and delicate. Limited production. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025."

"According to Breuer, the 2022 Riesling Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg is the wine that shows most facets of the Rüdesheimer Berg. This is usually picked in fully south- and south-west-facing parcels, differing in altitude. In 2022, however, the core south-facing parcel was omitted, as the grapes were too stressed, so this is mostly of southwest-facing parcels. Hazelnut, apricot and cream speak tenderly on the nose. The palate is fresh and has much texture and concentration, yet the body is slender. Yeastiness combines with lemon pith on the palate and is countered by a gentle nuttiness. The picture is of compactness with a salty, lemony edge that makes the mouth water. Bright, unfrilly, clean-cut, resonant. (Bone-dry)"
