Pinot Gris, ‘Oregon’, Joel Gott
Oregon’s Willamette Valley is ideal for growing Pinot Gris because of its cool weather climate. The 2014 growing season was marked by above average daytime temperatures that were balanced out by cooler than normal summer nights. These larger swings between daytime and nighttime temperatures allowed the fruit to evenly ripen while retaining even more of its bright acidity and varietal fruit characteristics. The fruit was picked in early September at optimal ripeness, resulting in good flavor and concentration. After being harvested, the fruit was hand sorted and gently pressed before going through a long, cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal characteristics and acidity.
