Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC, Altamonte
Pinot Grigio (known as Ruländer or Grauburgunder in German) has been at home in Alto Adige since the nineteenth century. The first “Pinot Gris” was introduced from Burgundy by Archduke Johann of Austria in 1852. In the areas that surround the town of Cortaccia, Altamonte Pinot Grigio develops perfectly with crisp acidity balanced by the fruit and perfume that the long days of sunshine and cool mountain air provide. Altamonte is blend of fruit from two different subzones of Cortaccia: from the lower altitude vineyards, the wine gains richness and power; while from the higher slopes it gets its minerality and perfumes. The blending of higher and lower elevation fruit creates an extraordinary Pinot Grigio, with the total class and creamy suppleness of the south and the seriousness on the palate of the north.
