  • 35% “Williamson” Islay blended malt aged in refill American oak hogsheads
  • 34.2% Caol Ila Distillery single malt aged in refill American oak hogsheads
  • 17.9% Caol Ila Distillery single malt aged in refill bourbon barrels
  • 11.8% Caol Ila Distillery single malt aged in refill puncheons
  • 1.1% Compass Box Highland malt blend (Glen Moray, Balmenach, Tomatin distilleries) aged in custom, heavy-toast French oak barrels
  • A portion of the whisky was finished 3–4 months in custom Independent Stave Company barrels made from virgin American oak air-dried for 2 years, lightly charred to level #2, and seasoned for 1 year with grain spirit in Scotland
  • On the nose, sooty barbecue smoke, green apple, and citrus oil with an underpinning of warming cinnamon precede a tarry palate of smoked almond, vanilla, and cayenne pepper with seaweed salinity
  • Limited release of 9,126 bottles
  • Non-chill filtered with no added coloring; bottled at a cask strength of 56.7% ABV

Compass Box’s Peat Monster celebrates its 20th anniversary with a cask strength release. Boasting randomized custom labels designed by American artist Marc Burkhardt, the bulk of the whiskies in the blend were aged in American oak and nearly half were finished in custom-made Independent Stave Company American oak barrels to further celebrate America’s influence on this iconic Scotch.

"Salty kelp, mild antiseptic, lemon oils, ground black pepper, smoked mackerel, vanilla ice cream, warm cinnamon, and heavy peat smoke assault the nose. Sweet cookie dough, lemon, mixed spice, pepper, clove, ground almond, burnt butter, and a powerful peppery phase with toffee, banana, vanilla, and cinnamon in its wake. Soaring in intensity, there's solace in bringing down the strength; pear, green apple, more smoke, and creamy vanilla are the compensation."
