Islay Single Malt Whisky, 'Loch Gorm 2020,' Kilchoman Distillery

Kilchoman Distillery was founded in 2005 and is the first distillery to be built on Islay for over 120 years. Kilchoman displays all that is great about the grass-roots traditions of Scotch whisky distilling. In addition to being one of the few distilleries to still practice floor malting, barley is also grown on the farm, making Kilchoman the only distillery to employ all parts of the whisky-making process on site. Kilchoman truly is Islay’s farm distillery—from barley to bottling.

Tasting Notes

Loch Gorm is the name given to Kilchoman’s annual release of whisky matured entirely in sherry casks. The 2020 edition is a vatting of oloroso sherry butts from 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011. 21 casks in total were vatted, resulting in a nose of sweet maltiness and juicy sultanas, with a palate of toffee, smoked meat, and layers of ripe fruit, finishing with dark chocolate and lasting oak spice. 46% ABV   “Overall there are a lot of similarities between the 2019 and 2020 expressions, however the 2020 bottling is much more fruit forward; there’s a bit less of the dry sherry influence and more dried fruits and cinnamon sweetness.” –Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder
