Grüner Veltliner 'Paragon', Tatomer

Grüner Veltliner 'Paragon', Tatomer

Paragon is a single vineyard in the north part of Edna Valley. It is exposed to the cool Pacific Ocean air like Tatomer’s vineyards in Santa Barbara. However, the soil in Edna Valley is quite different – it is volcanic in nature, specifically marl, quartz and limestone. The Paragon Vineyard always shows more of the green/herbal flavors of the grape generally associated with wines of Kamptal. 85% stainless steel and 15% large format acacia wood aging, blocked malo.

Review:
The 2017 Grüner Veltliner Paragon is generous and inviting, with lovely orchard fruit, jasmine, almond and mint character. In this vintage, the Paragon has a bit more textural richness than is the norm, but that works very nicely to enhance varietal character.
