Berger Lössterrassen Kremstal DAC Grüner Veltliner

Erich Berger is a humble grower in the Kremstal, located in the village of Gedersdorf. A Majority of the vineyards that he farms are devoted to Grüner Veltliner, the principle white variety of the Danube river valley.  “Erich no doubt suffers from journalistic underappreciation compared with his immediate neighbors” writes David Schilknecht in Vinous. Erich has become an ambassador for sustainable agriculture, becoming a member of Fair’n Green, a sustainable organization with members in France, Germany and Austria

Loessterrasen is named for the terraces dug into the loess soils in the Kamptal.  Erich farms these vineyards sustainably, without herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. Erich’s goal here is to make a more serious wine than the Liter bottling, one which “goes deeper” in his words. The resulting wine is noticeably more concentrated than the juicy and drinkable Liter wine, but still offering great value.
