"From slatey soils, the 2018 Burg Layen Riesling offers a clear and crystalline, pretty stony and herbal-scented bouquet with piquant aromas. On the palate, this is a crunchy and salty, piquant and mineral dry Riesling with a long and tensioned, lingering salty finish. Very promising. Tasted as a sample in July 2019."

"This was not set for bottling until after the 2019 harvest (and thus after my mid-September 2019 visit). Like the corresponding Hölle, it was raised half in large cask, half in tank, but it was racked entirely into tank near the end of the summer. Lime and apple are garlanded in basil, linden and apple blossom on a forthcoming nose and a cooling, generously juicy, polished palate. There is a combination of palpable extract richness with lift here that’s rare in vintage 2018. Crunch of fresh apple and a wealth of inner-mouth perfume follow on a vibrant finish transparent to underlying wet stone."
