Dolcetto Langhe ‘Visadi’, Domenico Clerico
Domenico’s father’s Dolcetto vineyard is located in Bricco San Pietro, on the way to Monchiero from Monforte d’Alba, and literally straddles the border of the two Dolcetto appellations, Dogliani and d’Alba. Rather than make two separate Dolcetti from one plot, Domenico decided to give his Dolcetto the Langhe appellation and keep the vineyard together. Eventually he added other parcels of Dolcetto as well: From Mosconi (near the Percristina plot) in 1993 as well as a small plot in Ginestra in 2004, both also clay-heavy soils that give the richness and power we love in long-lived Monforte wines. Beginning in the early 2000’s, the estate moved to fermentation and aging exclusively in stainless steel. Following 5-7 days skin maceration in temperature controlled tanks, the wine then spends 10 months in stainless steel before bottling.
