"Packed with red berry fruit, sweet spices and mint. Quite full and vigorous on the palate and is richer than most other 2018's tried. Oak needs to integrate but on its way to doing so."

"This has an attractively complex nose of dried rosemary, porcini mushrooms, sour cherries and spice box. Orange peel, too. Tangy on the palate, with a full body and polished tannins. Sharp acidity. From organically grown grapes. Try now or in 2023."

"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Marcellino offers more purity and lift compared to the 2017. It pours a rich ruby hue, with aromas of candied black raspberry, cherry, wooded earth, and fresh lavender, and it is long, ripe, and pure on the palate. Elegant and refined, with wild raspberry, as it opens more savory herbs. rosemary and tomato leaf emerge. It is drinking well now but will continue to improve 2024-2040."

"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, incense, tobacco, cloves and a good bit of French oak infuse the 2018 with notable depth. This virile, imposing Gran Selezione impresses with its volume. For my taste, the French oak is on the edge of being too much."

"The deep color and rich, dark fruit tones of this wine are typical of the open, sun-drenched exposures found in Monti, the southernmost area of the Gaiole UGA. San Marcellino is Ricasoli's oldest vineyard, some of the vines planted in 1966. The wine's dark cherry and black-raspberry flavors are concentrated and pure, deepened by a small percentage of pugnitello and girded by firm mineral tannins and cool notes of graphite. "

"A rich, succulent red, this boasts cherry, raspberry, rose, graphite and earth aromas and flavors. Pure, with vivid acidity and refined tannins lending support. Balanced and long, with a mineral edge on the aftertaste. Sangiovese and Pugnitello. Drink now through 2040. ‡B.S."
