Chardonnay ‘The Terraces’, Mayacamas

The old vines at the Terraces had a long and productive life, but due to severely waning health the 2013 Harvest was their last. The small amount of wine they produced was of exceptional quality, character, and intensity – it clearly stood out as something special. To celebrate this special story and others like it in the future, we have created the Special Bottling program. These wines will be produced only occasionally and always in very small quantities. Each of these wines will only be made once.
The 2013 “Terraces” is a classic Mayacamas Chardonnay, marked by bracing acidity, and focused, concentrated flavors of Asian pear, orange blossoms, wet stones and lime candy. It will age effortlessly for years to come.

Review:
"First ever special bottling at Mayacamas and this is superb. Full body, layered and complex. Cooked apple, cream and vanilla bean. So subtle and intense. Energetic. Made from vines planted in 1952 on the land with the famous Wente clone. 200 cases." - (June 11, 2016)

Review:
The 2013 Chardonnay The Terraces emerges from a parcel of low yielding, sixty year old vines that were ripped out after the harvest and is therefore the last wine off this site until the vineyard enters production again. It is also the finest Chardonnay I have tasted off the property. Stark and intensely mineral, the 2013 offers up a compelling range of crushed rocks, lemon oil, mint, chamomile and wild flowers, all backed up by serious structure. The 2013 did not undergo malolactic fermentation, but it exudes power and raw intensity.
