Chardonnay, 'Rosemary's Vyd', Talley Vineyards

The 2014 vintage marked the third year of the California drought. Warm and dry conditions resulted in the earliest harvest start date, August 1, in the history of Talley Vineyards. At 9 inches, total rainfall was less than 50% of the average for Coastal San Luis Obispo County. Ideal growing conditions during bloom time in the spring afforded excellent fruit set with very little mildew or botrytis pressure during the remainder of the season. The wines produced in 2014 share many of the characteristics that made the 2012 and 2013 vintages so appealing: charm, elegance and balance.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean and surrounding Rosemary Talley’s home, Rosemary’s Vineyard is the coolest site at Talley Vineyards. It has distinctive chalky shale soils and produces chardonnay marked by refreshing acidity.
