Chardonnay, 'Rincon Vineyard', Talley Vineyards

Produced entirely from own rooted chardonnay planted by Don Talley in 1984 at the top of the Eastern hillside of the Rincon Vineyard, a site marked by calcareous clay soils where vines struggle to produce small crops of intensely flavored grapes.

The 2014 vintage marked the third year of the California drought. Warm and dry conditions resulted in the earliest harvest start date, August 1, in the history of Talley Vineyards. At 9 inches, total rainfall was less than 50% of the average for Coastal San Luis Obispo County. Ideal growing conditions during bloom time in the spring afforded excellent fruit set with very little mildew or botrytis pressure during the remainder of the season. The wines produced in 2014 share many of the characteristics that made the 2012 and 2013 vintages so appealing: charm, elegance and balance

Hand-harvested September 10 – October 7, 2014
The average yield was 1.95 tons per acre
Naturally barrel fermented with native yeast
Aged sur lie 15 months in French oak barrels, 16% new
430 cases bottled in January 2016 without filtration
