Pierre Péters 'L'Étonnant Monsieur Victor' Brut
The history of Champagne Pierre Péters is, most of all, the story of a family over time. As the sixth generation to tend the domain grew up, the idea of expanding and deepening the family history was something that the family talked about together. Finding creative ways to involve both of his children, Albanne and Victor has been something that Rodolphe and Fabienne Péters are passionate about.
The cuvée “L’Etonnant Monsieur Victor” (“The Surprising Mister Victor”) refers to Victor Péters, Rodolphe and Fabienne Peter’s son , who from a very young age, was passionate about art and painting. For this project, Victor was to interpret a well-known painting in the manner of a different artist. He chose to parody the Japanese neo-pop artist Takashi Murakami and to re-visit a 19th Century biblical painting that he discovered at the Musée d’Orsay; “Caïn Fleeing with his Family” by Fernand Cormon. On one hand, he was able to conserve the principal line of the work; on the other hand, replaced the anatomical exactitude and the earth tone colors chosen by Cormon with Manga graphics to create a new work – a Pop Art style depiction of a famous classic with vivid and acid colors. This painting became the basis for the first release of this new wine, L’Etonnant Monsieur Victor MK09.
Encouraged by the result, Rodolphe asked Victor to choose and create 5 other works which could become the series of labels, a collection for a new project. At the same time, Rodolphe created this new cuvée, based each year on the blend of the best tank of Perpetual Reserve and the best Vin Clair, from the Les Chétillons vineyard, a heralded site in Le Mesnil.
L’Etonnant Monsieur Victor was born! A wine worthy of the art depicted on the label and vice versa. It has always been produced in small quantities, for the lovers of art and Champagne.
