  • 95% Canaiolo Nero (of which La Merla is recognized as the local biotype), 5% Massaretta
  • Clay schist soils, with a small presence of iron
  • Elevation: 350 to 650 feet above sea level
  • Fermented at low temperatures in concrete vats, followed by a 60 day maceration utilizing a submerged cap
  • For a year, the Canaiolo Nero (i.e. La Merla) is aged in 20hL Austrian oak casks from Slovenia, while the Massaretta is aged in barriques. Oak aging is followed by 6 months in cement, totaling 18 months of elevage before bottling.
  •  8 months in bottle before release
  • Approximately 1200 cases produced
